Like Tea from a Toilet

I have a vague philosophy of searching for silver linings. If at all possible, I prefer the whole cloud to become silver rather than just its outline. This phenomenon is most common in hindsight, in the moments when I look in the rearview mirror as I’m driving out of a turbulent tempest. Its these moments when I realize that the thunder, the rain, the lightning, and the winds were all contained by some giant, strangely beautiful cumulonimbus highlighted in magnificent shades of white, silver, and blue.

Of course the storm remains undoubtedly dangerous, so do not be allured to wander back into its midst simply for the sake of its beauty. For one to willingly re-shackle themselves to problems that have already been overcome is pure foolishness. I just simply believe that no situation is purely good or purely bad. There is a plane of light and a plane of darkness that interacts in every situation; an interaction that produces a unique shade of gray that represents its position on the scale. Gray is everywhere; the balance of the good and bad is ubiquitous. This is in part due to nature’s cycles of large-scale homeostasis and in part due to humanity’s rotations of mass mistakes and shocking successes. The individual pursuit of goodness and morality honors the yin and yang of life, because ultimately the mistakes made along the way balance out the efforts being made to correct the mistakes of others.

Now, I don’t like to stereotype, but I do imagine that most blog readers enjoy tea. Forgive me if I’m wrong. Imagine the best tea available; a tea that takes quite a bit of effort to make. Now imagine drinking that tea from a toilet, and the whole situation becomes gray, as well as somewhat concerning. This is me. I’m a cup of really fantastic tea, but one must overcome the fact that I’ve been used, sat on, have a “potty mouth”, and that some of my mistakes have been quite grimy. So basically, in alignment with my particular shade of gray, what I have to offer the world is a cup of fantastic tea to be drank from a toilet. Enjoy, world!
